I see a lot of different methods and different routines for cleansing the body and detoxing the digestive system and just an overall total cleanse. There’s a variety of different information out there along with a whole slew of different products to choose from that typically involve the use of super fruit ingredients and exotic sounding herbs. A super colon cleanse methodology that I advise doing is through the combination of juicing, smoothies, and herbal and natural supplementation, be it through cleansing programs or through individual natural supplements.

I generally advise that if you do any juicing, that you do it with your own juicer and not store-bought juices because “juiced” juice is much more nutritionally beneficial. These days, with the level of processed foods and sugars that we take in every single day, getting any sort of vegetable or fruit in our diet is an amazing feat even for the most health-conscious of us. So while certain vegetables and fruits give you more bang for the buck nutritionally speaking I would at least take something from Mother Nature over man made any day. Having said this however, there are definitely certain types of fruits and vegetables that are crucial to get on a regular basis, and one of these is the humble carrot. While this kills all the harmful bacteria it also kills all the helpful bacteria as well, which are known as enzymes, and it’s these enzymes that allow all the vitamins and nutrients to be absorbed by your body more efficiently which is crucial to a total body cleanse. So don’t skimp on the juicer or the produce and do it the right way the first time, because when you first experience the benefits of cleansing you’ll soon see that this is the most effective total body cleanse option that you have.

Cleansing can often be a very difficult and confusing thing to do especially if you’re new to this. This does not however mean that I believe that carrot juice can’t be used in conjunction with other juices on a regular basis.

In fact, a carrot juice cleanse done alongside other fruit juices and vegetable juices can be one of the best means of detoxing the body. My personal favorite is to drink a mixture of carrot juice, beet juice, cucumber juice, and celery juice. When a glass of juice is divided into equal parts among these various vegetables and taken on a regular basis during a juice cleanse this could be one of the most effective and potent detoxifying beverages that you can drink. As always, I recommend if you are going to juice do so with organic and properly washed and cared for produce don’t skip good hygienic procedures as you’re concentrating not only vitamins and minerals but possibly pesticides and chemicals as well so be careful.

As you may or may not know cleansing can be a really intimidating process to go through if you’ve never done it before and sometimes we only a little bit of help instruction. If you do all these basic things you’ll find your health in much better condition in your cleanse is much more effective.

Vegetable juice cleansing can be a fantastic way detoxing your body and increasing your overall health through natural means. I do however advise that people consider looking at different cleansing products to at least try them out and make sure that the convenience and ease of having a prepackaged cleansing product wouldn’t be appropriate for you. The biggest advantage to doing vegetable juice cleansing is that you can get a huge amount of servings of vegetables into your system quickly without having to consume and I’m realistic amount of raw vegetables, which if you were to try and do would equal multiple pounds in many plates of raw vegetables, this is obviously not practical for most people including the most stalwart of vegetarians and vegans let alone the average person who’s just trying to become healthier. Which brings us to why we are focusing on the vegetable juice cleansing consider fruit juice cleansing; this is because our ultimate goal is to help repair and nourish our bodies. While fruit juice is generally considered the tastier option it’s filled with sugar and acts more like a cleanser or preparation juice for the real workhorse which is vegetable juice.

The reason why vegetable juice cleansing works is because vegetables contain a lot of the nourishing vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that help repair all the various organs that are the primary sources of body detoxification primarily the liver and kidneys. Essentially what we are trying to do with the vegetable juice cleanse is give our liver of the opportunity to really do the detoxification, not juice itself. The vegetable juice is just a means of getting the liver and healthy state to begin the total cleanse process within the body when it normally wouldn’t have that opportunity due to poor diet. I generally advise drinking vegetable juice at least once or twice a day in general but when doing it with a cleanse you want to make sure you have it with every raw meal or just by itself, the latter of which is more effective and this is normally considered to be a juice fast. There are really two types of approaches to cleansing the body and people generally either fall on one side or the other and sometimes they try both methods. One of the methods is buying a prepackaged cleansing product or “cleanse in a box “as I like to call them of some sort, whether it be something along the lines of herbal supplementation or through the use of colonics in similar programs and cleansing routines. Not everybody’s needs are only different and I was recommend trying the different products that are out there if you feel that they might work for you, I don’t personally endorse any of it doesn’t mean that they don’t work on this article I’m going to teach how to do it naturally via an organic total body cleanse.

The reason I stress “organic” in terms of any sort of total body cleanse is because generally whenever you’re making juice or smoothies you’re making the nutrients more bioavailable as well as concentrating them. What this also does that make any artificial growth stimulants, pesticides, chemicals, toxins, and other harmful chemicals and agents that may have already been present due to mass production, unsanitary conditions, or through poor hygiene and not washing produce. In addition to the two glasses at each meal you should also make sure you have water with them as well at least a glass or two along with having water in between. You can also have a glass or two of fresh juice in between your main juice drinking meals, just don’t ever forget to drink purified water it’s crucial that your body is made of mostly water you need it to survive juice alone is not enough.

If your method for cleansing is through drinking smoothies or green smoothies for directions will be similar but slightly different. Depending upon the serving size you can have anywhere between one large glass or two smaller glasses of smoothies within each time you normally eat a meal or along with a meal. You generally need to drink more juice than you do drinking smoothies because juice contains no fiber and smoothies do and they generally are more filling as a result. If you’re curious what kind of juice I would personally recommend you take I recommend doing a minimum mixture of beet juice, cucumber juice, carrot juice, celery juice and anything else you might want to add for sweetness like apple Juice. As regards the smoothies I generally recommend you add greens to your fruit smoothies. The fruits I would recommend are mostly berries like blueberries, elderberries, aronia berries, black berries, and at least one whole banana for thickness and potassium. The greens I recommend adding would be kale, spinach, or rainbow chard. Always remember not to be afraid to try out different varieties and change things up with greens and fruits you use for your juices and your smoothies so you keep things not only new and interesting but also healthy by introducing different nutrients and flavors on a regular basis. These are simple total cleanse directions and guidelines that anyone can follow and really work.

Total cleansing can take a lot of different forms, and there’s a lot of different methods out there in which you can cleanse your body completely. If you’re uncomfortable doing this kind of thing yourself I do recommend checking out the different cleansing products are available, I say this because doing it the natural and homegrown way may not be appropriate for certain people and in other cases some people simply may not have time for it and buying a cleansing product may be more appropriate for them than doing it the old-fashioned way. However, in this article I am going to address why doing a total cleanse on your own may be better than some of the seemingly easier and cheaper options available to you.

For example, if you simply cannot afford or don’t have access to a juicer, you can just go to the store and buy organic juice preferably in a glass bottle if at all possible. The reason why juicing is generally preferred however is because the juice is a lot fresher and also has a lot of enzymes which are generally more effective at delivering all those vital nutrients to your body.

A convenient alternative to doing your own smoothies at home however is by going to a juice bar either like a Robeck’s or Jamba Juice as they will often do very tasty and healthy smoothies for you. The problem with going to a juice bar beyond the obvious reason of having to travel there, is because they usually makes smoothies that have a lot more sugar, plus the smoothies are much more expensive than the ones you would make at home. So although you do have some other choices I still advise you to buy a juicer and getting a blender if you plan to do this or any other cleansing routine or method over the long term. While the easy choices may at first seem like the best option the fact is that they are more expensive and less effective over the over the long term. So if time is the issue, check out different cleansing products, if money is the issue, then make sure you save up for a juicer or a blender and simply buy your produce and instead of wasting your money at $6-$7 per juice or per smoothie at a juice bar.

The reason these are so common and so very effective is because one, they have a lot of fiber and two, because they are very easy to make and cleanup. All you need is some produce, preferably frozen, and a blender that is powerful enough to blend the produce and you have yourself nearly a complete meal. What makes a green smoothie green is the fact that it’s a normal fruit smoothie with added greens to it to give it extra fiber and nutrition it’s also a great way to get your leafy greens and without having to deal with the taste.

A total cleanse multisystem wouldn’t be complete however without the use of natural raw foods in day-to-day eating. While I’m not saying that every single person has to and must eat raw foods all the time for their daily consumption I do advise that they intake a lot more raw foods and wholesome produce to replace all the processed foods that a lot of people tend to eat these days. What I advise is juicing a couple glasses of beet juice, celery juice, cucumber juice, and carrot juice and drinking it through the day. These all work synergistically to help remove excess water and waste plus they deliver vital nutrients that support the liver too, and give it the opportunity and fuel it needs to regenerate so it can work for you again the way it should. Drink plenty of pure filtered water too, i advise around 2-3 liters for women (depending on weight and size) and about 3-4 for men (same size rules apply).

I recommend not eating much solid food, and should you do so, keep it raw, and whole, no man made foods, do that along with regular juicing, then about 3-7 days into the core liver cleanse you should notice a huge difference in how you feel. You may feel a bit sick during this process but that’s totally normal because your body is finally eliminating all those nasty built up toxins, so keep it up and see it through your body will thank you.

In order to effectively cleanse your liver, you must have specific nutrients being taken in during the whole process. Sufficient antioxidants are vital to improve and keep your liver in a state of health and vitality. Milk thistle, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and beta carotene are all central aspect to the simple liver cleanse plan. Veggies like cabbage, broccoli; cauliflower and brussel sprouts are chalk full of these essential vitamins and nutrients. A simple liver cleanse happens over a 5 to 6 day period, this is then continued with a daily liver cleanse. Every morning you should drink a glass of pure filtered water with one to two teaspoons of lemon juice, preferably fresh squeezed. Every day you should also consume about 8 glasses of pure water and three glasses of clover, dandelion, or asparagus herbal teas, possibly a bit of each. During this cleansing time you should only consume whole raw foods; like whole grains, veggies, filtered water and lots of fresh fruits grown locally or organically. You must remove specific food types each and every day until your body has completely flushed the solids away and only fluids remain.

Exercise is recommended to be limited to normal walking about one to two miles per day but also ensuring you get all the rest you need-do NOT skimp over this, meditation is also recommended if you’re comfortable doing this in addition to sleep. On Day 1, remove all sweets, caffeine (except for green tea), any and all meats and every kind of refined food. Take two asparagus capsules or a glass of asparagus tea (which you can find in any health food store), two capsules in the morning and two at night or a glass in substitute. On Day 2, remove all nuts, beans and any dairy products. On Day 3, Get rid of all grains with the exception of whole grain or brown rice. On Day 4, remove all veggies that are really starchy like potatoes for example, also eliminate fish from the diet. During Day 5, you should remove the rice you kept before and leave yourself only veggies and fruits. Be sure to consume veggies that are known to be good for the heart such as artichokes, onions, beets and carrots. During Day 6, you need to stop eating any solid food of all types, leaving only liquids like broths, vegetable juices, and filtered water, Teas, and fruit juices.

After the final day-day 6, you should feel healed and res energized, and have an overall sense of lightness and cleanness. You’ll be able to continue your regular diet, except now you will be doing a simple liver cleanse routine for occasional maintenance. You should continue to drink a glass of purified water each morning with 1-2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Also do not stop drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day in addition to the 3 cups herbal tea. Avoid all fatty foods except for healthy fats like mono and polyunsaturated fats (in low amounts), any processed foods, and no alcohol should be consumed in order to keep the workload light and allow the liver to repair itself.

Green tea has a lot of health benefits and you can find this amazing tonic in a variety of different forms from bottled sugary teas, bottles healthy teas, tea bag, loose leaf tea, and the crushed powdered from known as matcha in Japan.  Having said all this, colon cleansing is becoming widely known for its own health benefits and the word is getting out about how having a properly functioning digestive system supplemented by regular colon cleansing is helping to keep people living longer, and living better. So it stands to reason that combining these two methods of improving ones health can only help to boost both methods effectiveness in helping to cleanse the body and strengthen its overall function, and a green tea colon cleanse routine is just the method to get us there.

The green tea colon cleanse routine is fairly simple, when you do your normal juicing with fresh organic produce, you also should either brew yourself some fresh green tea, or consume high quality bottled green tea like ito en’s oi ocha which has no artificial ingredients or sweeteners, just vitamin C to preserve the antioxidants and flavor. Green tea’s natural catechins help boost the immune system and also help along with naturally occurring and safe levels of caffeine help boost your overall metabolism, so when this is combined with fresh veggie juice, the effect can be extremely powerful. Make sure whatever produce you use to juice is washed using a quality veggie wash, and make sure your produce is either locally grown or organic so you’re not juicing bas chemicals and pesticides.

Green tea is not just healthy as a tonic, tincture, or tea, but it can also be used as an additional and vital ingredient to a fruit smoothie or green smoothie. You might be wondering how this can be, because your obviously not going to blend tea leaves, and tea is a liquid obviously so that wouldn’t work. What I suggest you do is buy the form of green tea used in Japanese tea ceremonies for centuries called “matcha”, this is essentially the tea leaf ground up by hand into a fine powdery or granular form, this allows for the WHOLE leaf to be consumed and as such you get the additional high chlorophyll content that is lost when tea is brewed and you just get the extracts, this particular form of the green tea colon cleanse routine is great for those who are not comfortable brewing their own tea and enjoy smoothies.

Have you ever gone to the bathroom only to become bothered by the rather vivid red color of your bowel movements? I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you found it odd or concerning, I know when I first started out and had my first glass of beet juice I had thought I was becoming very ill and bleeding from the inside. However when the cause of this rather odd coloring stems from beets the dark red and almost purple bowel movements along with a darker colored urine are perfectly natural and innocuous; and is sometimes known as “beeturia”.

The reason that beets and bowel movements go hand in hand are seen in the dark shade of reddish purple colors found in your stool because of a variety pigments known as betalain. These collectively in the red and purple beet varieties are known as betacyanins, and as is typical with many darkly colored fruits and vegetables, this is not only a sign of being healthy but also the reasons for the coloring of waste in both fecal form and through urine. The reason you can handle a beet as is, in its natural form, and not have any stained hands, is because these healthy pigments are located within the cell sections known as “vacuoles”, which when chopped into or heated naturally start to “leak”. This is also the case when you simply touch a portion of a peeled beet as well.

Now let’s get to the heart of the matter of beets and bowel movements, what does this have to do with cleansing? Well, beets are one of the best vegetables especially in vegetable form to combat and deal with constipation. Simply munching on these little wonders will give you ample fiber to help pass bowel movements, remember to keep in mind that raw beets have twice the fiber content relative to their cooked counterparts, so if you’re going to munch on these for digestive and cleansing health reasons, just eat them raw, raw is always the way to go with produce of most sorts. However if chewing them doesn’t float your boat, beet juice can be a great alternative, and as such can help with diarrhea since beetroot juice has cleansing properties.

These cleansing properties are big reasons why I include that in nearly my entire total cleanse routines and regimens, as they help clean the liver so that the liver can then go and clean the rest of your body, neat eh? They also deliver a lot of potassium as well which people often lose in bouts of diarrhea. These wonder roots are fantastic at preventing osteoporosis, heart disease, and some cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s and some cancers as well, so eat up or drink up and enjoy those beet juice benefits!

Acai berries have become the latest trendy super fruit alongside the mighty pomegranate, mangosteen, and goji berry. Let me first say that all of these fruits are good for you, because all fruits have some nutritional value, but some are more potent than others and these berries are often promoted with magical healing powers that are simply unrealistic. However when combined with good juicing habits and some moderate exercise, it can help to remove waste which along with the exercise can help you shed weight, and really help you achieve a whole body cleanse.

Acai juice blends are full of sugar, and rarely is it ever stated on the nutrition facts what the actual percentage of acai juice is in the container. From the research I’ve done the best form should you choose to get acai is in freeze dried powder form. I say this because provided you get it from a reputable company, it’s in the purest state-along with the puree option that you can get it in, next to having the berry itself of course. And the reason most of us outside of Brazil cannot get these amazing berries is because they spoil after 24 hours of being picked and can only be grown in the Amazonian climate, so anyone trying to sell you the whole berries themselves is trying to scam you, don’t buy it.

The acai berry has 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine. However this is not a statement of POTENCY, this is a statement of the VARIETY of different antioxidants and anthocyanins. The biggest acai berry benefits in regards to a total cleanse or partial cleansing are its trace fiber content and its impressive levels of omega fatty acids. Now having said this, the acai is not a significant source of fiber, but you can get a couple grams out of the powder form and if mixed with juice, especially with freshly juiced juice, the enzymes will unlock a lot of what’s beneficial about the acai powder and provide a very effective carrier of the acai nutrients, whereas mixing it with just water or store bought juice would not have this effect due to not having live enzymes.

In regards to the fatty acids it contains all three omega fatty acids but mostly consists of omega 9 which is a monounsaturated fat also known as oleic acid, which the body CAN produce in small quantities. Therefore it is not an essential fatty acid but DOES become so if you body is lacking the other two particularly Omega 3’s and then you would need to get it from your diet. Acai can be an effective addition to a juicing and whole body cleanse regimen if kept in perspective and not solely relied on.  In my next article on acai juice benefits, I will go into more detail about which brands of acai I prefer and why and what you should look for in a acai product for use during a total cleanse.

On day two you should really be starting to feel the effects of the total cleanse. Be sure to shower regularly as a vast amount of the toxins will sweat out through your pores, and you don’t want them lingering as it’s not healthy and can often smell offensive. Continue with the juicing regime I outlined in the prior article The Basic Core cleanse and Juice Fast Guide: Day 1. Be sure not exercise too strenuously as your body is not in a condition for it, but do be sure to get a minimal amount of cardio throughout the fast so that the blood flow is pumping properly and carrying out all those toxins to the various parts of your body to expel.

Now let me Elaborate why I recommended the juices I did. These are not frivolous choices given without care- they were selected for a reason and for optimum cleansing. Let’s start with…..

Beet juice: The beet juice is considered as one of the best vegetable juices for detox cleansing. It is a rich source of natural sugar. It contains sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur, chlorine, iodine, iron, copper, and vitamin B1, B2, C and P. This juice is rich in easily digestible carbohydrates, but the calorie content is low. The protein factors or amino acids are good in both quality and quantity. Beets also have great healing qualities as well, and have therapeutic value. They have properties to clean the kidneys and gall bladder (which help detox the body). Being rich in alkaline elements, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron, they are useful in combating acidosis and aid the natural processes of elimination.

Cucumber Juice: Cucumber is well known for its healing and diuretic properties. It’s a great source of Copper, Chlorine, Folate (folic acid), Magnesium, Vitamins B6, K, & C, Potassium, Panthothemic acid, Phosphorus, Thiamin, and Sulfur. Cucumber peel itself is rich in vitamin A as well (hence making your own juice is more potent). Cucumber juice has a tendency to increase its own potency and the potency of other veggie juices when mixed so not only does it act as a diuretic because its 90% water but it also increases the strength of the other veggie juice. (Did I mention it’s great for the skin?

Carrot Juice: Carrot juice is the most powerful veggie juice there is next to wheat grass, and thankfully is one of the most plentiful even bottled for those of you without access to a juicer. Carrot juice is one of the richest sources of vitamin A that can be used in the daily diet. It also ranks high as a source of the other anti aging vitamins, especially those of the B complex. Its mineral content is equally rich, and includes calcium, copper, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, chlorine, sulfur, and iron. The vitamin A content of carrot juice helps to strengthen the eyes and is essential in keeping healthy condition the mucous membranes which line all the cavities of the body, as well as strengthening the bones teeth and tissues of the body among its many other benefits.

The body is clogged with a lot of buildup in the colon from years of poor diet with high fats, sugar, and a lack of fiber. This is common knowledge now but despite knowing this when people try to get the most out of there supplements and health foods they often feel  let down by the results even after regular and steady intake. The reason for this is the blockage in the colon mentioned earlier, this often prevents and weakens the body’s ability to maximize nutrient absorption from your food and often makes the best supplements nearly useless.

Naturally we can conclude then that removing this blockage will remove this impediment and should allow for the various health foods and products to truly go to work and start the process to provide a total cleanse for the body.

Many forms of a naturopathy treatment are available to you and I will describe many of them in detail in future articles. The gentlest form of Cleansing is a food based diet where you simply consuming mostly high fiber grains, vegetables, and mostly water with light amounts of veggie and fruit juice. The most Extreme is simply fasting completely and only consuming water, I would never recommend this because your body is not getting any nutrients whatsoever and can be very harmful to the body. The most commonly used method and one I personally live by is the Juicing Fast or Cleanse. This involves consuming many liters of water a day along with Pure and Whole Fruit juices and Vegetable juices. As a result, your body is not taxing itself and is able to expel fecal matter blocking your colon but still allow for all the nutrients you need to survive and ultimately make the natural detox much more effective.

When someone is just starting this for the first time the fasting should only be for three days.  Anything beyond this and you should consult a Physician first. There are people who should not try juice fasting. Pregnant or Nursing women should not try a juice fast or cleanse. People should not attempt a juice fast either before or after surgery. People with chronic conditions should only do so under medical supervision.  Juice fasting can reduce blood proteins and change the way prescription drugs react with the body and therefore should consult a medical professional skilled in detoxification before trying a juice fast and should never reduce or modify their medications on their own.
